H & T's Downtown Fredericksburg Date Night Engagement Session

H and T share my deep love for Riverby Books in downtown Fredericksburg, VA, so it felt like the obvious place to start their engagement session.
They wanted a mix of date-night energy and classic engagement portraits, and I almost always begin with the “date” portion so couples can settle in somewhere familiar. Doing something normal, like flipping through books, wandering between shelves, and laughing over posters, makes it easier for people to forget there’s a camera involved.
We hopped from cozy nook to cozy nook, carefully eyeing which books and prints would end up in the background of their photos. If you’ve never been to Riverby and you live in Virginia, you’re missing out. It’s easily one of the best bookstores around.
One of the perks of a winter engagement session (we took these in December) is that the trees don’t hide the view. I love greenery. (I’m basically a plant myself. I wilt in the cold, dark months and perk up dramatically once the sun comes back.) But in this case, winter worked in our favor. As we walked along the edges of Riverfront Park, the Rappahannock River was completely visible behind us.
We climbed down the slightly muddy bank to a tiny dock tucked below the park. The view of the bridge from there was too good not to include, so of course we stayed awhile.
We finished back near Riverby with a few urban sidewalk shots — brick pathways, storefronts, and that classic downtown Fredericksburg charm — before parting ways.
I already know their May wedding is going to be something special.
