When Beth from Three Cats Photo invited me to join her as an associate photographer for a New York City wedding, I knew it would be an unforgettable experience—and it didn’t disappoint! The two of us hopped on a train from our homes in Central Virginia and arrived in the bustling heart of Manhattan.
I always feel a bit disoriented stepping into NYC’s fast-paced, loud, and stimulating environment, but within a couple of hours, I was fully immersed in its rhythm. I have such a love for functional public transportation and the sense of endless adventure the city holds.
The festivities began with Ashley and Stephen’s intimate rehearsal dinner at Salumeria Rosi, a charming Italian restaurant they frequent in their neighborhood. The cozy space was candlelit, creating an intimate and chic atmosphere as their families and wedding party gathered to celebrate. Half the restaurant is a classic deli, and the other half features a dining area adorned with a ceiling sculpture of Italy—complete with colorful highlights marking the owner’s home region. The attention to detail in both the space and the meal itself made the evening unforgettable. The couple actually signed their marriage license that night which added a whole new layer of celebration to the evening.
The next day began at the Essex House Hotel, where Ashley got ready amidst excitement and laughter before heading to Midtown Loft and Terrace for their wedding.
The ceremony took place on the rooftop terrace—a magical setting with a breathtaking view of the city skyline. The lush rooftop garden, maintained year-round, was open to the sky that day, thanks to the perfect sunny weather. Ashley and Stephen exchanged vows surrounded by loved ones, including the children Ashley nannies, who had the honor of being ring bearers and a flower girl. It was such a sweet and meaningful touch to see how the couple incorporated everyone special to them.
Cocktail hour followed on the rooftop, where guests enjoyed the iconic views before heading down to the loft for the reception. The transformation of the space was spectacular—draped ceilings, elevated floral centerpieces, and a classic color scheme of whites, blacks, and pops of red and purple created an elegant yet warm ambiance.
One of my favorite details was the cookie table, a Pittsburgh tradition that I’m now completely obsessed with. Ashley and Stephen’s guests indulged in an incredible assortment of cookies, alongside a photobooth where cutouts of their cat and dog stood in for their furry family members who couldn’t attend.
The night was a lively celebration, filled with dancing, laughter, and heartfelt toasts. Ashley and Stephen truly made their day as special and memorable as the city they love.
Congratulations to this wonderful couple! I’m so honored to have been a part of your love story in the heart of NYC. ❤️ It was so fun being a New York wedding photographer!
